ANTHROPOS/ Deep Security was founded in by Pascal Daudin and Maarten Merkelbach They have a cumulative 60 years of international experience in operational and strategic security and risk management. Excited by what they learned and discovered over years of practice, studies, discussions and reflections, they decided to join forces. ANTHROPOS/ Deep Security is based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Pascal Daudin

Pascal was until recently Senior Policy Adviser at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). After a short career as a freelance journalist, he joined the ICRC in 1985 and served in more than twenty different conflict situations including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Kuwait, Caucasus and Central Asia, holding positions of Line Manager and Protection Expert as well as managing institutional reform. Between 2003 and 2007 he worked as Senior Analyst and Deputy Head of a counterterrorism unit attached to the Swiss Ministry of Defence. In 2007, he was appointed Global Safety and Security Director for CARE Internationals operations and institutional policy. In 2011, he returned to the ICRC as Senior Policy Adviser on humanitarian actionrelated matters.

 

Maarten Merkelbach

Maarten joined International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1991. At the ICRC he worked and coordinated operations in various conflictaffected countries in the Middle East and Gulf region, Central Africa, and SouthEast Asia. After a short mission for the UN in Chad, he became director of the Security Management Initiative (SMI) in 2007 where he focused on security risk management and legal liability/duty of care. In 2009, he joined the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) where he extended his interests to a variety of topics such as peacebuilding, civilmilitary relations and democratization. He is regularly solicited by governments, multilateral organizations, the UN, international NGOs and the private sector.
